Wonder around the impressive Sumtseling Monastery, also known as the Little Potala Palace, built by the Fifth Dalai Lama in the 17th century. Have a far view of Kena village just below the monastery, whose community has historically supported the monastery, and the Old Town of Dokher Dzong. Gaze at the wetland of Napha Lake, the wintering ground of the endangered black-necked crane, and end your day Trinyi village where Tibetan people still lead their traditional lives based on agriculture and pastoralism. A traditional hot pot, accompanied with it’s millenary dances, will be waiting you in a massive but beautifully decorated Tibetan adobe house.

9:00 - Meet at Khampa Caravan.
9:30 - Arrive at Sumtseling Monastery.
11:30 - Visit Kena village.
12:30 - Lunch at the old town.
13:30 - Walk around the old town.
14:30 - Visit around Napha Lake.
15:30 - Back to town.
17:30 - Drive to Trinyi village.
18:00 - Dinner at Trinyi village.
20:00 - Tibetan dance with local people.
21:30 - Back to town.

Morning visit to Sumtseling Monastery, which is one of the 13 largest Gelukpa monasteries in Kham; built by the Fifth Dalai Lama in the 17th century. The monastery currently has about 500 monks who follow the predominant Gelukpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism. We visit the Grand Assembly Hall (Dratsang), one of the colleges (Khamtsen) where we will meet monks from all over Gyalthang County. We then have a far view of Kena village just below the monastery whose community has historically supported and sustained themselves from the monastery. We then come back to visit Old Town of Dokher Dzong, which is undergoing a major revival.

After lunch, we visit the wetland of Napha Lake, the wintering ground of the endangered black-necked crane. After two hours of a leisurely walk, we drive to Trinyi village in the outskirt of the town where people still lead their traditional lives based on agriculture and pastoralism. We get to visit a family in their massive adobe house with Tibetan hotpot dinner and dancing which is 800 years old.
